Prophet Muhammad's Wives
THE WIVES OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PEACE BE UPON HIM)
They gave him comfort and support in
time of need.
One suffered with him through three years
of being boycotted.
Another did craftwork and sold what she
produced to donate to the poor. This in spite of the fact that they often lived
for months at a time with only dates and water in the house to eat.
They gave advice to their husband when
he needed it, went with him to battle to nurse the wounded, accompanied him on
his travels.
They preserved the memory of intimate
details of their married life in order to educate succeeding generations in the
rules of purification and relations between spouses.
Yet they also had their human faults.
Sometimes they divulged their husband’s secrets to each other. Sometimes they
joined forces to play jokes on him.
Who were they?
They were the wives of the Prophet
Muhammad, respected and revered as the Mothers of the Believers.
They were the Mothers of the
Believers
Lady Khadijah bint Khuwaylid
Lady Khadijah's life was rich with
moral lessons from which today's husbands and wives irrespective of their race,
faith and geographical locations are in dire need to adopt and embrace.
Lady Sawdah bint Zam'ah
Sawdah was a mature woman, around 40
years of age, and a mother of five children. This marriage gave Sawdah an
uplift in her life...
Lady Zaynab bint Jahsh
Our beloved Mother Zaynab was a
sincere Muslim and a believer very much tied to her beliefs. She had taken it
upon herself to lead a life distanced from anything not pleasing to Allah.
Lady Aisha bint Abi Bakr
Though Aishah was ready for marriage
life, the Prophet preferred to grant her extra support in her transition to
life as a married woman...
Lady Hafsah
Umar's daughter, Hafsah, was married
to Khunays ibn Hudhafah, who adopted Islam in its early years and was among
those who immigrated to Abyssinia in response to the Prophet's advice...
Lady Safiyah
Lady Safiyah was extremely spiritual
and spent most of her time reading the Quran, which Muslims believe to be the
exact words of God, and memorizing many chapters of it...
Lady Umm Salamah
When Umm Salamah's husband died, she
wondered who could be better than him. Yet this is exactly what happened to Umm
Salamah. After rejecting a succession of suitors, she received an offer of marriage
no Muslim woman could refuse.
Lady Umm Habibah
Umm Habibah was married to Prophet
Muhammad (peace be upon him) through the proxy of the Emperor of Abyssinia. She
was the daughter of the chief of Makkah...
Lady Maimunah bint Al-Harith
When Prophet Muhammad initiated the
marriage proposal to Maimunah, it was a huge family affair, and Prophet
Muhammad spoke to her brother-in-law and her sister Umm Al-Fadl.
